ALPHARETTA, GA.—The Refinishing Touch, a leader in on-site environmentally safe and sustainable furniture refinishing and re-upholstering for private and public organizations, has completed a large-scale renovation project at the Candlewood Suites in Killeen, Texas. The Refinishing Touch re-upholstered 68 lounge seats, 63 desk chairs and seven side chairs using eco-friendly Embrace recycled leather, the latest addition to the company’s Touch Textiles commercial fabric division.

After receiving customer feedback around outdated, stained and worn upholstery across its existing furniture assets, Candlewood Suites sought an alternative to purchasing new furniture that would enhance its ongoing sustainable initiatives and save on budget costs. In turn, the money saved would be strategically used to renovate and improve other areas of the hotel, including the establishment’s exterior and elevators.

By investing in The Refinishing Touch’s furniture asset management services, Candlewood Suites Killeen reduced its total expenditure by an estimated 64.3 percent—lowering the cost for the project from $65,000 to just more than $23,000.

A Cost-Effective Leather Alternative

Through The Refinishing Touch’s Touch Textiles line, Candlewood Suites Killeen was able to select a fabric that was cost-effective, environmentally-friendly and high-quality—Embrace recycled leather. With its various colors, superior depth, dimensional grain and hand-rubbed layered tones, the leather alternative offers the same look and feel as the traditional material, at a fraction of the cost.

“We’re an extended-stay hotel, so we take great pride in building lasting relationships with our guests,” said Dorene Burlew, general manager of Candlewood Suites Killeen. “After receiving feedback regarding our soft seating covers, which were tearing at the seams, stained and peeling, we knew we had to implement a solution that would continue enhancing our green initiatives while saving on budget. The Refinishing Touch’s knowledgeable production crew, on-site services and speed-of-work made it easy to select their services for our hotel, as we remained open for business during renovations and maximized our overall return on investment.”

“Candlewood Suites Killeen was the first establishment we worked with to implement the Embraced recycled leather fabric during its re-upholstery project, and in turn, the hotel saved nearly 65 percent in budget and 90 percent in carbon emissions—a strategic investment resulting in positive feedback from customers, employees and property managers alike,” said Mario Insenga, founder and president of The Refinishing Touch. “By incorporating such products into our growing lists of services, we are able to continue our commitment of providing the most fiscally- and environmentally-friendly solutions to our customers. A goal we have been working towards for over 35 years.”
