PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA.—PGA National Resort & Spa announces the launch of its new Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) charging stations with a reception on October 7. The South Florida destination is the first in the area to install the Eaton electric vehicle charging stations for electric and hybrid cars. Its parking lot will be outfitted with three total charging stations—two Eaton Commercial Level II Chargers and one Eaton DC Level III Quick Charger.

The DC Quick Charging unit is capable of fully charging a vehicle in 40 minutes or less, while the two Level II chargers can fully charge an electric vehicle within a few hours. Designed to increase travel radius and reduce range anxiety, the DCQC charging infrastructure supplies a quick connection to the grid for drivers on the go with a fast direct charge of electricity needed to refill the battery.

PGA National continually invests in sustainable practices with newly updated energy efficient HVAC, guestroom energy management system, water efficiency measures and waste minimization and recycling. Additionally, it is in the process of obtaining golf course certification from the international GEO OnCourse program.

Florida Green Lodge Since 2007

Acknowledging the resort’s effective and sustainable practices, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection has designated PGA National Resort & Spa a Florida Green Lodge since 2007. This accolade recognizes lodging facilities in Florida that make a commitment to conserve and protect Florida’s natural resources.

“We are proud to be the first in the area to install EVSE charging stations as the world moves toward more sustainable energy consumption,” says Joel Paige, vice president and managing director. “We feel strongly about taking a leadership position in environmental responsibility and setting a good example for our community.”

Additionally, Enterprise Rent-A-Car is making it easy for visitors to the PGA National Resort & Spa to try out this new technology by offering an all-electric Nissan LEAF for rental to resort guests.

“Our support of this effort promotes the adoption of alternative fueled vehicles,” said Aaron Toombs, Enterprise Rent-A-Car regional vice president in South Florida. “We know the car rental experience is often an extended test drive and that is particularly true with unfamiliar technologies like EVs. This initiative will further encourage EV driving, making drivers more comfortable and confident with this new vehicle technology.”
