Hyatt’s Fourth Andaz Property to Include Green Roof, Organic F&B
AUSTIN, TEXAS—The East Avenue Investment Group LP and Global Hyatt Corp. announced plans to develop a hotel under Hyatt’s new luxury brand, Andaz, as part of a mixed-use development in Austin’s central core. The 210-room hotel will open in 2010. The announcement comes on the heels of Hyatt’s unveiling of its new brand in April 2007, and announcements for Andaz hotels in London and Manhattan. The landmark Great Eastern Hotel in the City of London will convert to Andaz in mid-October, followed by properties at 75 Wall Street and 485 Fifth Avenue, New York, in 2009.

Natural Ventilation Highlighted in IAQ 2007 Workshop
ATLANTA—Natural ventilation has been promoted as a cure-all to reduce cost and energy consumption and to improve indoor air quality and occupant comfort. The reality of natural ventilation, however, is more complicated. A workshop discussing the design and performance of natural systems will be featured at ASHRAE’s IAQ 2007: Healthy and Sustainable Buildings conference. 1 Hotel & Residences Modifies Seattle Plans, Adds Three Floors to Project
SEATTLE—The developers of 1 Hotel & Residences, Seattle announced that buyer excitement surrounding its first-in-the-market City Suites product has prompted modification of the building to accommodate an additional three floors of fully furnished condominiums, which can be included in a rental opportunity with the hotel. With the retrofit, the nation’s first eco-luxury 1 Hotel will now offer 176 City Suites on floors nine through 16, says Paul Brenneke, president and CEO of Avalon Holdings, developer of the property. The 560,000-square-foot, 23-story, mixed-use project, which broke ground in June, plans a public sales debut for early October.
