Adrift Hotel Adding Solar Panels for Water Heating

LONG BEACH PENINSULA, WASH.—Adrift Hotel is taking more big steps in sustainability with its current $48,000 project to add solar hot water panels and rainwater catchment for laundry. LAS VEGAS—MGM Resorts International employees have pledged $4.7 million this year to support nonprofit organizations serving the resort company’s host communities in Nevada, Michigan and Mississippi. IHG Announces Marked Increase in 2013 Carbon Disclosure Project Results

LONDON—InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) announced its Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) results, charting substantial improvements in both its Disclosure Score and Performance Rating. Portola Hotel & Spa Assists School with Solar Array Payment

MONTEREY, CALIF.—Portola Hotel & Spa, Monterey’s first and only Silver LEED EB certified hotel, announced its donation to Santa Cruz’s Bonny Doon Elementary School for the installation of its new 31 kilowatt solar array. The new solar panels, sponsored by The Offset Project’s Monterey Bay Carbon Fund and other members of the community, reduce the school’s electricity bill by 10 percent and allows for students to monitor renewable usage in the classroom. USGBC Prepares to Roll Out Hospitality-Specific Adaptations of LEED Version 4

NATIONAL REPORT—It will be at this year’s Greenbuild International Conference and Expo (November 20 to 22 in Philadelphia) that the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Environmental Design (LEED) v4 will be introduced. For the hospitality industry, the rollout will be significant. It will be the first time that there will be hospitality-specific adaptations of LEED: LEED Hospitality-New Construction, LEED Hospitality-Existing Buildings, and LEED Hospitality-Commercial Interiors.
