PORTSMOUTH, N.H.—Newmarket International, Inc., a leader in sales and catering solutions for the hospitality industry, announced the ground breaking on a new building for which it will pursue LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. It will be the first commercial building with this environmental certification in Portsmouth, N.H. Being developed by Two International Group, the building is located at the Pease International Tradeport.

LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

Dan Plummer from Two International Group is working closely with the management team at Newmarket International, Inc. to design an environmentally sustainable building both inside and out. This involves using environmentally sustainable construction materials, as well as landscaping, parking, office equipment, furniture and design.

“It is critical for our company to be environmentally aware and take responsibility for the impact we have on our local community and across the world,” says Sean O’Neill, Chairman and CEO, Newmarket International, Inc. “The new building is one of the major steps we are taking in 2008. We have also put a committee in place to assess our current processes and to make changes that decrease our impact on the environment today.”
