EDENTON, N.C.—Naturepedic, manufacturing organic mattresses in Ohio, has been awarded Gold Exemplary Recognition by the Sustainable Furnishings Council for its deep environmental commitment and exemplary implementation of a range of best practices for sustainability. The company completed the rigorous process of demonstrating compliance with SFC’s Exemplary Manufacturer Requirements, submitting audited evidence of achievements in operations, in production, and in outreach to attain recognition at the Gold level. Naturepedic is the only Gold Exemplary mattress company among the organization’s nearly 400 member companies.

Barry Cik, CEO, speaking for the company said, “The Sustainable Furnishing Council knows the importance of safe guarding the environment, both inside our homes and out. Naturepedic takes sustainability seriously, and we are honored that our efforts have been recognized at the Gold level by the SFC.”

Commenting on the process, SFC Standards Committee Chairman Gat Caperton said, “Naturepedic is a true innovator and leader in our industry. Their work in sustainability and creating a healthy home environment has inspired many of us. The SFC is honored to award Gold Exemplary status to Naturepedic.”

Amish Workmanship

Naturepedic is a family owned business based in Ohio. Nearly all the company’s products are made in the U.S.A., using both domestic and imported components and fabric. SFC’s Gold Exemplary recognition is the latest in a long line of recognitions and certifications the company has received. They are repeatedly recognized for their support of the local and national economy and for using the finest materials and Amish workmanship.

The Sustainable Furnishings Council helps furnishings companies reduce energy consumption and minimize harmful chemical inputs in their production processes. The organization also helps consumers find products and sources that are healthy for families and for the environment. The standard for Exemplary Manufacturer recognition, established soon after the organization’s incorporation in 2007, emphasizes certifications that cover the “triple bottom line.”

“We are extremely proud of Naturepedic’s achievement of this recognition,” says Susan Inglis, SFC Executive Director. “The company is a leader in so many ways and we are very proud to recognize their leadership in sustainable furnishings. This Gold Exemplary recognition shows consumers as well as professional specifiers the depth of the company’s commitment to the good of their customers, associates, vendors, community and the environment we all share.”
