LAGRANGE, GA.—Milliken Hospitality’s Lucerne modular carpet collection received the Editors’ Choice Award for green décor during the 92nd annual International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show (IH/M&RS) last month at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

This year, the awards program was expanded to include a green equivalent to each of the competition’s five traditional categories of décor, essentials, luxury, restaurant and technology. Editors from leading hospitality trade publications reviewed nearly 150 submissions of cutting-edge, new products, and selected winners based on innovative product design, how a product answers a particular industry need, creative use of material or construction, and development or use of a new technology.

“Lucerne and all our Milliken modular products are certified to the new industry-wide green carpet standard, NSF 140-2007, so hospitality designers can be assured that our carpet supports LEED and healthy interiors,” said Bill Gregory, Milliken’s director of sustainable strategies.

Numerous Green Attributes

Factors that distinguish Milliken’s Lucerne modular carpet tile are innovative technologies using green chemistries to extend product life; adhesive-free installation with TractionBack that improves indoor air quality and eliminates waste; No Carpet to Landfill pledge; and unique sustainable manufacturing attributes including carbon negative manufacturer, zero waste to landfill and Cleaner and Greener/Health & Climate Care certification. All Milliken carpets are produced with alternative energy and offer opportunities to participate in Trees for Carpet.

Through concept, manufacturing and installation, Milliken’s Lucerne carpet tiles enhance hospitality design. Lucerne builds a complex pattern, layer by layer, pairing chocolate browns with cool blues and greens contrasted with warm accents of pumpkin and cranberry. This unique design concept called étage allows designers to customize patterns by adding or subtracting layers.

These modular tiles are elements of a design package with broadloom in rug and runner formats that address specific hospitality design needs. The carpets carry a 10-year wear, stain and soil, and bleach protection warranty. Manufactured with an integrated cushion backing ensures underfoot comfort and extended appearance retention as well as up to 35 percent recycled content. Lucerne is free of PVC and chlorine for healthy interiors.
