CHICAGO—Master-Bilt, manufacturer of a full line of commercial refrigeration systems, recently unveiled its optional MBWA-1 digital walk-in alarm and light management system. The new factory-installed MBWA-1 replaces less accurate mechanical thermometers, separate alarms and light switches with one convenient unit. It saves energy with its door open alarm as well as its internal light timer, which automatically switches off the light. It comes equipped with a number of features including high/low temperature alarms, light management and a panic alarm. An optional battery backup is also available.

The MBWA-1 is designed to help eliminate the two biggest energy wasters on a walk-in: leaving the door open and leaving the lights on. It has both an audible and visual alarm to warn when the door is left open while a timer, adjustable from 1 to 255 minutes, shuts off the lights automatically.

The MBWA-1 also features a temperature alarm system that can be set to warn for both high and low temperatures and automatically resets when the temperature returns to its normal range. The keypad temperature readout can be programmed to display interior temperature from one second to four and a half minutes after the door is shut, to avoid false alarms. An interior and exterior panic alarm is also included to warn against entrapment, which illuminates a visual “PAN” display on the key pad.

“The MBWA-1 is an optional accessory that will aid with any walk-in, especially one being used by multiple people on a regular basis,” says Bill Huffman, vice president of sales and marketing for Master-Bilt. “The features are easy to use and can help our customers in a number of ways from safety to saving energy, and the NRA show is a great place to introduce the technology to the rest of the industry.”
