GAITHERSBURG, MD.—Gaithersburg Marriott Washingtonian Center has an energizing offer for guests who arrive in eco-friendly electric and hybrid electric vehicles to celebrate the installation of its new electric vehicle charging station. Gaithersburg Marriott’s Charge Up! Eat Up! Green Up! package highlights its commitment to energy-efficient practices that protect the environment. Available through May 31, 2013, guests who reserve this special package can fuel up with a complimentary breakfast while they charge up their electric vehicles at the new Level 2 charging station recently installed near the hotel’s front entrance.

“Protecting the environment is important at every level,” says Sara Moore, general manager, Gaithersburg Marriott. “At Gaithersburg Marriott, we have taken steps to improve the environmental impact of our operations. We also want to empower our environmentally conscious guests by offering complimentary charging on-site.” The hotel is a recipient of the Maryland Green Travel Partner award.

Nissan North America, Inc. donated the charger to Gaithersburg Marriott to promote the adoption of energy-efficient electric vehicles, says Steve Oldham, spokesman, Nissan. He estimates electric vehicles will represent 10 percent of global auto sales by 2020.

Gaithersburg Marriott’s charging station is one of approximately 8,000 charging locations in the United States, a rapidly growing number that is expected to hit 11,000 by the end of 2012. Complimentary charging is available to all guests of the hotel and restaurant. The Charge Up! Eat Up! Green Up! package is $99 to $109 per night plus tax based on availability for Friday and Saturday stays through May 31, 2013. Package includes guestroom and complimentary breakfast buffet for up to two people (a $32 value) per electric vehicle.
