FREEPORT, MAINE—Some of Maine’s finest inns and resorts will slash their rates by 50 percent this spring to support Hospitality for Habitat, a Maine Innkeepers Assn. (MEIA) program that raises funds for local chapters of Habitat for Humanity, announced Greg Dugal, executive director of MEIA. Participating Innkeepers all over the state will reduce room rates by half between April 25 and May 27, 2011 for guests willing to write a $35 donation check payable to Habitat for Humanity.

“Every dollar donated goes to help build homes in Maine for deserving families,” said Dugal. “Travelers taking advantage of the Hospitality for Habitat program have been very generous over the years, and seem to enjoy this opportunity to stay in Maine’s best resorts, hotels and B&Bs at greatly discounted rates.”

This is Hospitality for Habitat’s eighth year, and the program has grown each year since its beginning. In 2010, despite the challenging economic climate, innkeepers and their guests raised more than $21,000 for Habitat projects. MEIA has donated more than $51,000 to Habitat for Humanity since the program began in 2004.

“We are grateful to the innkeepers and their guests who continue to support this program each year, Dugal said. “It really is a win, win. This fundraiser helps to bring visitors to the state during what is traditionally a slow time for tourism, gives visitors an opportunity to stay at wonderful properties at terrific rates, and supports a great cause.”
