COOPERSBURG, PA.—Energy-saving lighting control manufacturer Lutron Electronics announces enhanced Quantum system functionality enabling real-time energy metering of building loads.

Lutron’s Quantum Total Light Management maximizes the efficient use of light to improve comfort and productivity, simplify operations and save energy. This system dims or switches all electric lighting and simultaneously controls daylight using automated shades. Quantum easily integrates with building management systems.

Quantum systems have always incorporated energy-use calculation software to help evaluate and monitor overall lighting energy use. Now, with new Quantum Energy Metering, the system can also provide real-time energy measurement and verification including high-accuracy metering of lighting, HVAC and/or plug loads.

More System Benefits

In addition to delivering metered energy data, the system can:

• contribute to LEED certification;
• help meet current and future requirements for industry regulation; and
• help qualify installations for regional rebates and incentives.

By installing a Quantum energy meter on critical loads in a building, energy data can be measured and verified using tools that are familiar to Quantum users, such as Lutron GreenGlance software and Q-Admin control and monitoring software.

Features of Quantum Energy Metering include:

• meters provide accurate energy monitoring of electrical loads, capture where energy is being used in the building, and monitor and gauge effectiveness of energy-savings initiatives;
• scalable up to 500 meters throughout the building (depending on size of project and granularity of desired measurements);
• meters can be named and grouped for customized display and reporting purposes;
• systems provides up to five years of historical information for long-term analysis and LEED reports; and
• complies with current and future energy codes, standards, and rating systems (LEED, ASHRAE, EPAct 2005, FFEMP, IgCC).

The energy meter, a Honeywell Class 500 meter, incorporates the following features:

• meters are certified to ANSI C12 Accuracy standards (+/- .5%);
• direct-read LCD display provides cumulative kWh information;
• compact size (7” x 7” x 3.25”) installs in virtually any available space;
• works on 3 phase distribution systems at (delta or Y configurations) at 120/208V, 277/480V, and 347/600V;
• monitors virtually any size circuit (100A up to 3200A); and
• split-core current sensors make installation easy, with no need to rewire during installation.
