DALLAS—Lodging Hospitality Magazine and Pineapple Hospitality have announced the date and location for their first Green Hospitality Conference. The event will be held on March 14 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas. The conference will precede Lodging Hospitality’s annual Hospitality Operations & Technology event.

The one-day Green Hospitality Conference will feature panel sessions on green housekeeping, design and construction, and green power. Four roundtable breakouts will focus on energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction and recycling, and air quality. At the end of the day, the closing session will give attendees the opportunity to discuss panel and roundtable topics.

“Now is the perfect time to hold an event like this,” says Ray Burger, president of Saint Charles, Mo.-based Pineapple Hospitality, a seller of products ranging from compact fluorescents to amenity dispensers. “Interest in sustainable hotel design and operations is at an all-time high. LEED-certified hotels are open, under construction and on the drawing boards. Last week, CEOs from 10 of America’s largest corporations called for a mandatory reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.”

Lodging’s Green Evolution

“The time may finally be here in which the principles of green lodging—everything from aggressive energy management to using earth-friendly chemicals—make economic, social and marketing sense,” says Ed Watkins, Lodging Hospitality’s editor. “And 2007 will be a good year to at least dip your toe in the water by attending the first Green Hospitality Conference. The one-day event will answer many questions and present a variety of opportunities for hotel owners and operators.”

The luncheon speaker for the event will be David Oakey. He is the founder of David Oakey Designs and a consultant to Interface. A leader in sustainable design, Oakey was inspired by his mentor, Janine Benyus, author of the book, Biomimicry. The book focuses on learning how to solve problems in design, business and life from nature. In his presentation, Oakey will outline a design process that links inspiration and design.

Wen-I Chang, president and founder of Atman Hospitality Group Inc., South San Francisco, also will be on hand to discuss his company’s pursuit of LEED certification for the Gaia Napa Valley Hotel & Spa in American Canyon, Calif.
