KALAMAZOO, MICH.—Landscape Forms, North America’s leading designer and manufacturer of high-design site furniture, structures, and lighting, introduces the Typology catenary ring light, an ethereal luminaire that transforms urban environments into unforgettable visual experiences. Designed in collaboration with Designworks, a BMW Group Company, the catenary ring light represents a bold evolution in pedestrian-scale lighting—one that prioritizes artistry and presence as much as illumination.

“The original ring design emerged from a joint desire to create something that transcends traditional luminaire form,” says Jordan Agustin, President of Lighting at Landscape Forms. “We wanted to create an element that could be recognized at a distance yet still feel intimate and welcoming when experienced up close. The catenary mounting style expands on the original ‘floating ring’ design and allows for unique arrangements to be created above a space.”
“The collaboration between Landscape Forms and Designworks, a BMW Group company, brought together two organizations deeply committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in urban design,” says Ryan Heiser, Director of Design at Landscape Forms. “This evolution of the ring light represents our shared belief that functional infrastructure can—and should—inspire wonder. We approached this project with the understanding that lighting in public spaces is about creating moments that resonate emotionally with the people who experience them.”
Floats Above & Transforms Open Space
Ring light is an integral component of the larger Typology collection, an innovative and visually cohesive approach to lighting that creates immersive three-dimensional environments. Unencumbered from vertical support, the Typology catenary ring light floats above and transforms open space, complementing pedestrian scale pole mounts serving multiple purposes on the periphery.
The catenary suspension system allows for flexible installation configurations, adapting seamlessly to diverse urban contexts. Coordinated spacing strategies and variable pole heights allow both pole and catenary applications to work together, creating a rhythmic and unifying visual language across busy plazas and transit hubs to more intimate pedestrian walkways and park paths. The engineering behind the catenary ring light reflects Landscape Forms’ commitment to technological innovation and manufacturing excellence.
“The ring light challenges conventional approaches to urban lighting by prioritizing emotional impact alongside performance,” Jordan adds. “It creates a sense of place that’s immediately recognizable and deeply memorable. People interacting in the spaces lit by Typology ring experience a connection to place that elevates the entire environment.”
