KOHLER, WISC.—At the recent Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, Kohler Co., a global leader in kitchen and bath design and technology, showcased two of the company’s newest water-saving toilets: the gravity-fed Kohler Persuade with Twin Touch technology and the Kohler San Raphael Pressure Lite.

The San Raphael is Kohler’s first one-piece, 1.0 gallon-per-flush (gpf) high-efficiency toilet with pressure assist technology. The toilet uses compressed air within the reservoir to propel water to the rim and siphon jet for robust flushing power. The 1.0 gpf could save a household of four between 7,000 and 10,000 gallons of water annually, versus the standard 1.6 gpf. The San Raphael toilet features a sleek one-piece design, with Comfort Height seating and an elongated bowl for ease of use.

With its versatile aesthetic and two-piece construction, the Persuade toilet should appeal to a wide audience of designers, architects and others who are already accustomed to an unparalleled combination of design and performance from Kohler. It features Kohler’s exclusive Twin Touch flushing technology, which results in significant water savings without sacrificing performance.

The Twin Touch flushing technology provides users with an exceptional combination of water savings and powerful performance to consistently remove light and bulk waste with just one flush. It allows users the option of selecting one of two water levels each time they flush the toilet.

Two Flushing Options

Operated by a user-friendly, two-button actuator integrated into the top of the Persuade’s tank lid, the user can flush either 1.6 gallons or half that amount—0.8 gallons. The latter flush option, if used routinely to remove light or liquid waste, could save a household of four up to 6,000 gallons of water per year over standard low-flow models, which routinely flush 1.6 gallons of water.

“These toilets represent the future of flushing technology,” says Shane Judd, product manager for toilets, Kohler Co. “The industry is progressing to better technology and improved performance, while utilizing less water. The introduction of Kohler’s San Raphael and Persuade underscores our commitment to offer consumers the most choices for water-conserving plumbing products.”

Both toilets will be WaterSense labeled, a partnership program sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which ensures consumers are purchasing a product that reduces water usage, and meets strict performance guidelines. To be eligible for WaterSense, toilets must flush, on average, with 20 percent less water than the standard 1.6 gpf.
