How to Stop Paying for the Air in Your Water Each Month

Did you know that you are paying for air in your water each billing period? When water arrives at your hotel under pressure, tiny air bubbles are compressed within that water. At your water meter, pressure drops as the air expands into micro-bubbles that spin the meter. Yes, you are paying for that air.

At The Hospitality Show in Denver, which just wrapped up yesterday, I came across two companies offering a Made in the USA solution for businesses interested in not paying for the air in their water. The companies—CMP Water and AquaFlow Technologies Inc.—both sell valves that compress the air before it reaches the meter, so you only pay for water use.

According to CMP Water, municipal water moves through every city’s water system at very high pressure—150 to 200psi. Every facility’s internal water meter has to reduce that pressure to 50-80psi to accommodate its internal plumbing. That process produces air. The air goes through the meter. The meter can’t tell the difference between the air and the water.

“The CMP Water Valve pushes that air back up into the system so that you only pay for the actual water that you are using,” CMP Water says. CMP says customers can expect to save 15 to 25 percent on their water and sewer costs with an ROI of from three to 12 months on its Water Valve.

Performance Not Impacted

According to AquaFlow Technologies, its AquaFlow Valve reduces water consumption by up to 6 percent monthly, cutting waste without affecting performance.

“The AquaFlow Valve compresses the air before it reaches the meter, so you only pay for real water use,” AquaFlow Technologies says. “It also increases meter accuracy, stabilizes pressure, lowers consumption, and extends plumbing life—all with a simple and easy install.”

The AquaFlow Valve produces an average monthly savings of 15 to 30 percent on water and sewer costs.

For those who qualify, CMP Water offers a free 90-day trial and a lifetime guarantee. AquaFlow Technologies also offers a lifetime warranty along with rent and finance options.
