THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS—Hotelschool The Hague and IHIF (Questex) are joining forces, in collaboration with International Tourism Partnership (ITP), to enhance the development of sustainable hospitality. Through the Sustainable Hospitality Challenge, they will be challenging students from top-tier international hotel schools to provide innovative solutions to the environmental and social challenges the hospitality industry is currently facing.

During the challenge the most renowned hotel schools will work together with the most respected technical universities around the world. They will share expertise and develop solutions to enable the hospitality industry to positively contribute to our climate, culture and people. The challenge finalists will then get the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a CEO panel at IHIF.

Hotelschool The Hague Director of Industry, Paul Griep, said: “What an outstanding opportunity, together with our partners Questex and ITP, for this generation of the best hotel school students to impact the future of sustainability in the hospitality industry on such an international and worldly platform. I am so looking forward to the student presentations and am certain we will be introduced to some innovative, brilliant and impactful future sustainability contributions.”

Challenge Centered Around Sustainability

Managing Director of EMEA, Questex, Alexi Khajavi, said: “We’re delighted to be able to provide a unique and world leading platform that brings together students embarking on their career in the hospitality industry, hungry and passionate to shape the future, with experienced and knowledgeable CEOs leading the organizations who form such an integral part of the industry. That this challenge is centered around sustainability is absolutely fitting and so relevant to us all. This is truly connectively with purpose and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

ITP Director, Madhu Rajesh, said: “At the International Tourism Partnership, we bring together the world’s leading hotel companies to drive responsible business in the industry. This challenge shows how the industry—from students through to top CEOs—are coming together to share ideas and develop innovative suggestions for real-life environmental and social issues.”

The Sustainable Hospitality Challenge is based upon six years of experience in organizing the Hotelschool The Hague Genio Worldwide Innovation Summit. During this summit, students of international hotel schools were given exciting real-life industry cases, which they pitched to a prominent jury from the hospitality industry.

Five Teams, consisting of five hotel schools, made it to the final of this year’s first edition of the challenge. Watch for more details soon.
