Green Lodging News Solidifies Lineup for Two IH/M&RS Green Panels
NEW YORK—Green Lodging News has finalized the panelist lineup for each of the two sessions it is organizing for the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show (IH/M&RS). The show will take place at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from Saturday, November 10 through Tuesday, November 13.

1 Hotel & Residences Modifies Seattle Plans, Adds Three Floors to Project
SEATTLE—The developers of 1 Hotel & Residences, Seattle announced that buyer excitement surrounding its first-in-the-market City Suites product has prompted modification of the building to accommodate an additional three floors of fully furnished condominiums, which can be included in a rental opportunity with the hotel. With the retrofit, the nation’s first eco-luxury 1 Hotel will now offer 176 City Suites on floors nine through 16, says Paul Brenneke, president and CEO of Avalon Holdings, developer of the property. LEED Applications Top 100 as Program Becomes Accepted Green Standard

Survey Shows Green Construction Costs Dramatically Lower Than Believed
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND—Key players in real estate and construction misjudge the costs and benefits of green buildings, creating a major barrier to more energy efficiency in the building sector, a new study by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) reports.
Respondents to a 1,400-person global survey estimated the additional cost of building green at 17 percent above conventional construction, more than triple the true cost difference of about 5 percent. At the same time, survey respondents put greenhouse gas emissions by buildings at 19 percent of world total, while the actual number of 40 percent is double this.
