PORTLAND, ORE.—GleenGlass LLC, a manufacturer of recycled glass surfaces, recently completed recycled glass bathroom vanities and reception counters for The Oxford Hotel in Bend, Ore.

Inspired by the cosmopolitan mountain town of Bend, The Oxford Hotel was designed and built to incorporate local, environmentally friendly products that reflect the ambience of the Cascade Mountains and Central Oregon region. GleenGlass was selected to create handcrafted recycled glass vanities that would capture the look and feel of a high desert river.

“The goal of The Oxford Hotel’s vanity design was to provide a surface that was clear and would have enough inner bubbles and texture to evoke a sense of running water while maintaining a smooth, level surface,” said John Sauer, GleenGlass principal. “The edge profile was created to reflect the caprock formations so common in the river canyons of the Bend, Oregon area. We accomplished the design by hand cutting each of the layers used to form the one-inch thick vanities and fusing them together under high heat. As a green business creating green products, we were very fortunate to be able to collaborate with the Oxford Hotel Group and participate in the development of such an upscale eco-destination.”

“GleenGlass embraced our vision of an eco-chic boutique hotel and successfully translated our concepts into beautifully designed vanities using the required recycled components,” said a spokesperson for The Oxford Hotel. “We enjoyed partnering with GleenGlass, and our other eco-friendly suppliers, as we worked towards providing the most earth-friendly hospitality experience available in Bend.”

GleenGlass is one of the few companies worldwide to manufacture 100 percent glass surfaces from recycled glass. All GleenGlass products are made in Washington State from U.S. industrial waste glass. Entitled to bear the Federal Recycled Glass logo, GleenGlass products can help commercial and residential new construction and remodels qualify for LEED [Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design] points.
