Getaway Proves There’s Big Opportunity in Going Tiny

Put me in a tiny house permanently with my family and I think it would just be a matter of time—probably a very short period—before we all went crazy. I suspect many of you can relate and have seen some of the same tiny homes I have seen on TV. It does not help that my family is all tall.

That said, you could put me in a tiny house or tiny cabin for a brief getaway in the forest and I would love it. That is one reason I chose to feature Getaway on my website this past week. Be sure to read the article. I interviewed Carlos Becil, the company’s Chief Experience Officer. For those of you not familiar with Getaway, they are now up to more than 800 cabins throughout the United States. The cabins are grouped in “Outposts”. Becil told me that in November 2021 alone, Getaway opened new Outposts in Boston, New Orleans, Minneapolis, Kansas City, and Indianapolis, and a collective 224 new cabins. There are now 20 Outposts, nearly a 50 percent increase since 2019.

“Earlier this year [2021], we closed a $41.7 million Series C funding round led by Certares, with continued support from existing investors, which has helped support our rapid growth and the eight new Outposts we opened or announced this year,” Becil said. “Our priority remains focused on opening new Outposts throughout the country and beyond, bringing the opportunity to Getaway to even more consumers, especially as nature-tourism and disconnected travel continue to rise.”

Rates are Strong

I went to the Getaway site to try to look at the rates Getaway is getting, and they ranged from $99 per night during the week to $299 on certain Friday nights. I looked at a property in Ohio. Where do I sign up to invest?

The tiny cabins range from 140 to 200 square feet and every cabin regardless of the location shares the same, simple design. The custom-built cabins were designed with the idea of allowing guests to immerse themselves in nature, while having everything they need to truly disconnect and simply enjoy nature and the company of themselves and/or loved ones. The cabins utilize natural elements—wood, metal, and glass—and Eastern White Pine throughout, to help create a seamless transition from outside to in. Every cabin has a big picture window to allow guests to wake up to the sunrise or doze off gazing at stars.

During this time of pandemic, who doesn’t need a getaway into the forest?

The cabins have many green features, and you can read about them in my article. One example: For every new Getaway booking, a donation is made to One Tree Planted. Another example: all the cabins are constructed off site in a factory setting where there is a lot more control over efficient use of materials and reducing construction waste.

Green Suppliers Spotlight was created to give vendors an opportunity to reach a high number of industry purchasers at a very low cost—as low as $200 per e-mail. (Click here for rate sheet.)

Those advertising in Green Suppliers Spotlight can include up to 100 words, one image, contact information and multiple links to their website in their ad. At the end of each week, a report will be sent to each supplier with information on delivered e-mails, opens and click-throughs.
