Eco Expo Asia Set to Open in Hong Kong on October 28

HONG KONG—Eco Expo Asia 2008 is scheduled to open on October 28 at AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong on the themes of air quality, eco-friendly products, energy efficiency and waste and recycling. Now in its third year, the event has confirmed more than 130 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions, and will be held in tandem with the Eco Asia Conference led by a panel of international industry experts. The Hon. Edward Yau, JP, Secretary for the Environment for the Hong Kong government, will be the official guest of honor on the opening day.

This year’s highlights will feature:

Swedish Pavilion—Organized by the Swedish Embassy Center for Environmental Technology, the Swedish Pavilion will introduce its latest eco products and innovations. A presentation will be held on October 28 where eco experts from Sweden will share their environmental experiences.

Hong Kong Pavilion—Organized by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and the Hong Kong Environmental Industry Assn. and features more than 20 eco industry companies.

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Zone—Following last year’s success, the zone will return to showcase products and services that improve indoor air quality.

Mayor of Kawasaki to Speak

In the Japan Environmental Industry Forum, organized in cooperation with the Kawasaki municipal government, experts and government authorities will be sharing the city’s environmental protection measures and technologies. This special forum takes place on Tuesday, October 28 and will feature the mayor of Kawasaki, Mr. Takeo Obe as guest speaker. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding signing cermony is confirmed to take place between the government of Kawasaki and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council prior to the forum.

In parallel with the Eco Expo Asia trade fair will be the third annual Eco Asia Conference. In addition to several local environmental protection specialists, some of the most influential international voices on the business of environmental protection will be speaking out on the featured themes of energy efficiency, air quality, waste management and recycling, and green building.

Joining the forum panel of experts will be keynote speaker Ms. Anissa Wong Sean-yee, JP, the Hong Kong Government Permanent Secretary for the Environment /Director of Environmental Protection.

Also presenting seminars at the conference, will be:

• Professor Martin Mittelbach from the University of Graz speaking on “Biofuels from Waste and Non-Edible Feedstocks;”

• Mr. Marco Beiggren from Tricorona, speaking on “Technology Transfer within Kyoto Protocol and the Carbon Market;”
• Dr. Annette Ochs from the Federation of German Waste Management, speaking on “Organic Waste Recycling and Energy Recovery in Germany;” and
• Professor C.S. Poon from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, speaking on “Eco-Block—Turning Wastes to Environmentally Friendly Construction Products.”
