WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.—Doris Kearns Goodwin, noted historian and author of Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, will deliver the keynote address at the 2008 Hospitality Leadership Forum. More than 700 senior level hospitality managers will be in attendance as Goodwin illustrates lessons in leadership relevant to today’s issues and headlines using some of the country’s greatest figures as examples. The full day conference will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2008, preceding the 93rd annual International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show (IH/M&RS), running November 9-11, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

In a presentation based on the No. 1 New York Times best-selling book Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, the award-winning historian will inspire the audience with candid discussion about politics and successful leadership strategies, based on history’s most compelling personalities. With stories and insight from the successes and failures of Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, Goodwin offers timeless lessons that apply to the world of business as well as politics. Her presentation will focus on the individual qualities that define a great leader.

The author of several best-selling books, Goodwin won the Pulitzer Prize for No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. She also penned the touching memoir Wait Till Next Year, about the love of baseball she shared with her father. Team of Rivals won the 2006 Lincoln Prize, the inaugural New York Historical Society Book Prize, the Richard Nelson Current Award and the New York State Archives History Makers Award. It is currently being developed into a movie by director Steven Spielberg, starring Liam Neeson as Lincoln and Sally Field as Mary. Goodwin is often a trusted resource for historical perspective on political and current events, having served as an NBC commentator and a contributor to several PBS documentaries, including LBJ, The Kennedys, FDR and Ken Burns’ The History of Baseball.

Also highlighting the 5th annual Hospitality Leadership Forum is the CEO Leadership Panel and U.S. Lodging Industry Summit Panel, featuring top level industry executives discussing the current state and future of the industry. Other topics to be addressed throughout the full-day conference include hospitality design, technology, sustainability, leadership, food and beverage and more. Hospitality Leadership Forum tickets are $129 each and available online at www.ihmrs.com.
