BUFFALO, N.Y.—Delaware North Companies is keeping its International Organization for Standardization (ISO) registration thanks to the results of independent audits at several managed properties. Three properties had zero noncomformances. The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake in Ohio, Delaware North Companies’ corporate office in Buffalo, N.Y., and Gideon Putnam Resort in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., met all ISO requirements.

GreenPath, Delaware North Companies’ environmental management system, aims to protect, preserve and effectively manage “green“ initiatives at all locations. Delaware North was the first U.S. hospitality company, as well as the first U.S. National Park concessionaire, to receive ISO registration.

“GreenPath’s primary objectives are to guide Delaware North units toward environmental improvement and to ensure our environmental management system conforms to the ISO 14001 standards, even when the company isn’t seeking ISO registration,” said John Huey, Delaware North Companies’ director of environmental affairs. “These audit results are evidence our system works. The environmental managers at these units followed the system, and as a result, they have improved their environmental performance.”

Huey pointed to Gideon Putnam as an example of an effectively managed system. The resort, which is a new Delaware North operation, received ISO recognition during its first year of implementation.

Following ISO requirements helps the company identify and control the environmental impact of its activities and products. Through GreenPath, company associates attempt to improve Delaware North’s environmental performance by implementing and following a systematic approach at each location, promoting environmental excellence.
