TORONTO—Days Inns-Canada announced its participation in the HAC Green Key Eco-Rating Program administered by the Hotel Association of Canada (HAC). Days Inns-Canada is the first midscale hotel chain to participate in the program as a brandwide initiative.

Through the HAC Green Key Eco-Rating Program, Days Inns’ 87 locations across Canada are committed to maximizing efficiency by enhancing energy performance while also reducing operating costs. The brand expects that most of its properties will receive their Green Key rating by the end of 2006.

“As active supporters of the HAC Green Key Eco-Rating Program, Days Inns-Canada is dedicated to working with our properties to ensure they improve their environmental performance and incorporate eco-friendly solutions to their business model,” says Irwin Prince, president and c.o.o., Days Inns-Canada. “Together we are pleased to be a part of this graduated rating system which will result in improved energy performance.”

Based on the results of a comprehensive environmental audit, all rated Days Inn properties across Canada have been awarded either a two or three Green Key rating. The Green Key rating recognizes their dedication to taking considerable steps to identifying environmental impacts and implementing programs to help minimize excess waste.

According to HAC, six out of 10 Canadians are looking for environmentally friendly hotels as an important part of their travel plans. Through their participation, Days Inns and Days Hotels across Canada will continue to help promote energy conservation.
