AVALON, N.J.—Concord Suites is officially a TripAdvisor GreenLeader after demonstrating ongoing green initiatives. The TripAdvisor GreenLeaders Program recognizes hotels that are committed to green practices such as alternative energy, water efficiency and recycling.  GreenLeaders make a large, positive impact on the environment around them through their efforts to go green.

Concord Suites has not stopped looking for ways to reduce its environmental footprint. Last year, the hotel installed a 434-panel solar array on its rooftop which now harnesses the sun’s energy and provides the Concord with 60 percent of its overall energy usage.

The Concord Suites has added energy-efficient light fixtures and bulbs; additional insulation; and new high-efficiency air-conditioning and heating units. In addition, guests of the Concord have the option to reuse their towels and linens for more than one day to conserve the energy that comes with washing large amounts of laundry daily. Brita Hydration Stations for refillable water bottles are available to guests; replacing the water bottle machines that were used.

The Concord also uses 70 percent tree-free paper products such as toilet paper and tissues in all suites, and all amenities use ERP (Environmentally Responsible Packaging). The hotel also has a prominent recycling program and employees and guests are encourage to recycle throughout the property.

Property Supports Clean the World

Along with green incentives throughout the hotel, the Concord has made an effort to be a part of green programs throughout the world. The most recent program the hotel has joined is Clean the World, which is an organization that recycles discarded soaps and bottled amenities and distributes those throughout the world so those less fortunate can benefit from the practices of good personal hygiene. The Concord is also a member of the AH&LA (American Hotel & Lodging Association) and is working with its Green Task Force to develop a series of comprehensive, sustainable greening guidelines designed to create an environmentally-friendly and sustainable hotel.

The Concord has also been accepted into the Garden State Green Hotels Project in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, N.J. Department of Environmental Protection, N.J. Board of Public Utilities, and U.S. Green Building Council—N.J. Chapter. This project will help reduce energy use, help the hotel upgrade to more efficient equipment, obtain training for employees on waste reduction and water conservation and to discover alternatives to harsh chemicals to protect the guests and employees of the hotel.

Even the heron in the Concord Suites logo has gone “green.” The Concord Suites has embraced the green heron as their mascot, and with the help of their Facebook fans, has named him “Eco Eddie.”

“We are so excited to now be a part of TripAdvisor’s GreenLeader Program,” said Susan Cawley, Concord general manager. “Being ‘green’ is just another reason to love the Concord Suites, and being recognized by TripAdvisor allows our guests to come and enjoy their vacation here even more now, knowing that they are doing their part for the environment.”
