Charles Fishman to Keynote WaterSmart Conference

LAS VEGAS—Investigative and magazine journalist Charles Fishman, author of “The Big Thirst: The Secret Life and Turbulent Future of Water,” will be keynote speaker for the 4th annual WaterSmart Innovations Conference and Exposition luncheon Thursday, October 6, at the South Point Hotel and Conference Center in Las Vegas.

A finalist for the Goldman Sachs “Financial Times” Business Book of the Year award in 2006, Fishman is a former metro and national reporter for The Washington Post. Since 1996, he has worked for the innovative business magazine Fast Company. His story about bottled water, “Message in a Bottle,” was a finalist for the 2008 Gerald Loeb Award for magazine writing, and a finalist for New York’s Deadline Club Award for magazine writing. He also is the author of The Wal-Mart Effect, a New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Business Week bestseller.

Last year’s WaterSmart Innovations conference and exposition drew nearly 1,100 participants from 40 states and nine nations. It also featured more than 130 professional sessions and an expo hall with 100 exhibitors.

The Southern Nevada Water Authority is presenting WaterSmart Innovations 2011 in partnership with the Alliance for Water Efficiency, American Water Works Assn., Audubon International, California Landscape Contractors Assn., California Urban Water Conservation Council, the U.S. EPA’s WaterSense Program, Green Plumbers USA, International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, International Center for Water Technology, International Code Council and Irrigation Assn.
