LAS VEGAS—Green Chips, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing Nevada’s identity as a sustainable destination, received a $50,000 grant from the Caesars Foundation to help launch its Convene For Green initiative website in 2012. The Convene for Green initiative was launched in March 2011 as a grassroots program to encourage renewable energy and conservation projects in Southern Nevada. The new website will serve as an educational platform, discussion forum and support center for businesses, nonprofits, residents and Las Vegas visitors.

“As the founding sponsor of the outreach and online community programs for Convene for Green, the Caesars Foundation has been an invaluable supporter of Green Chips at all levels since the beginning,” said Shari Farkas, interim executive director for Green Chips. “With Caesars and our community partners we look forward to expanding our reach and message on environmental responsibility in the years to come.”

In its mission to create momentum for sustainability, Green Chips has completed energy retrofits on several low-income resident homes and the Shade Tree Homeless Shelter, and is in the final phase of a solar energy project for the Salvation Army. Once the website is live, the organization will be better able to assist residents by organizing neighborhood meetings, community events and an energy retrofit loan program.

“The Convene for Green message is one that companies and communities in Southern Nevada can be inspired by,” said Thom Reilly, executive director of the Caesars Foundation. “As we embrace a greener approach, we will collectively become more sustainable economically, environmentally and socially.”

During the past two years, Green Chips has established strong partnering relationships with Caesars Entertainment, City of Las Vegas, City of Henderson, City of North Las Vegas, the U.S. Green Building Council and Clark County, among others.
