PHILADELPHIA—ARAMARK Harrison Lodging (AHL) has been recognized with two prestigious awards for environmental stewardship. The 2006 Environmental Achievement Award was received from the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) and a 2006 Governor’s Pride in Arizona Award from Arizona Clean and Beautiful was also awarded.

AHL, a division of ARAMARK, is a provider of meeting and recreational support services to conference and corporate training centers, specialty hotels, national and state parks, resorts and other tourist destinations throughout the United States.

“Protecting natural resources is a vital part of our company’s service and commitment to our guests, employees and neighbors,” says Dean Crane, vice president of operations for AHL. “We are grateful for these awards as they recognize the company’s continued dedication to protecting and maintaining the environments in which we operate every day.”

The DOI’s Environmental Achievement Award recognizes Doyon/ARAMARK, a joint venture between Doyon Limited, one of 13 Native regional corporations, and ARAMARK for its environmental management programs at Denali National Park and Preserve. Doyon/ARAMARK has implemented an environmental management system that includes recycling, sustainable cuisine, an environmentally preferable purchasing policy, energy and resource conservation, solid waste reduction and reduced harmful emissions.

Repeat Award Winner

This is the second time ARAMARK has won the award. In 2000, ARAMARK was the first concessionaire to receive this award for its environmental operations at Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas. To qualify for the Environmental Achievement Award, companies had to clearly demonstrate the following: a clear environmental need for the project; challenges to implement and successfully complete it; innovative techniques or technologies used for the project; partnering and cooperative conservation; and the scope of the project’s impact.

ARAMARK-managed Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas was awarded first place by Arizona Clean and Beautiful in the environmental leadership category of the Governor’s Pride in Arizona Awards for its environmentally preferable purchasing and recycling programs and for installing environmentally friendly EcoRooms featuring more than a dozen guestroom products that are energy efficient, water efficient, waste reducing, nontoxic or biodegradable.

Recipients of the Arizona Clean & Beautiful Awards were evaluated on the following: their ability to demonstrate a clear environmental need or problem addressed by the program; scope and size of the target audience; the history of the program and innovative approaches used; and quantifiable results garnered, including improvements in public attitudes.
