SACRAMENTO, CALIF.—Airzone Control, provider of intelligent and innovative HVAC control solutions, and INTEREL, a leading provider of Energy Management Systems for the global hospitality industry, announced a technology partnership integrating the Airzone Aidoo Zigbee gateway with the INTEREL EOS2 smart thermostat. The integrated solution enables hotels and hospitality properties to achieve wireless smart control of inverter HVAC systems such as VRV, VRF, heat pumps, and mini splits, without compromising inverter functionality, efficiency, or control precision.

Modern hotels face competing demands that are difficult to reconcile with conventional HVAC technology. Guests expect intuitive, responsive climate control. Ownership and management teams need to drive down energy consumption and support sustainability goals without compromising the guest experience.

The INTEREL EOS2 is an intelligent guestroom management solution designed specifically for the hospitality industry. The thermostat interface features a sleek, modern design that complements luxury hotel interiors. Equipped with integrated occupancy sensing, door status monitoring, and environmental intelligence, EOS2 enables hotels to automate room conditioning based on real-time occupancy status. By leveraging advanced energy management logic, properties can significantly reduce HVAC energy consumption, improve operational efficiency, and enhance guest comfort.

Airzone’s Aidoo Zigbee gateway allows the INTEREL EOS2 to integrate with Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) Units. VRF is an advanced HVAC solution that is widely adopted in hospitality new construction; connecting a VRF unit directly to a third-party thermostat disables the variable-speed logic that makes this technology efficient. Aidoo Zigbee connects via the HVAC unit’s native protocol, preserving full functionality while enabling complete bi-directional communication.

“EOS2 delivers an intuitive and seamless guest experience while supporting a property’s sustainability and operational goals,” says James Massouras, Head of Sales and Global Strategic Partnerships, INTEREL. “The Aidoo Zigbee allows INTEREL to integrate with VRF systems without compromising their state-of-the-art HVAC technology, supporting the best-of-breed design approach modern luxury hospitality demands.”

Wireless Architecture: Simpler to Deploy, Less Expensive to Install

Communication between the EOS2 thermostat and the Aidoo gateway is entirely wireless, operating over Zigbee. Each Aidoo unit functions as a powered Zigbee node and automatically acts as a mesh repeater, strengthening wireless coverage across the deployment as room count scales.

For hospitality projects, the elimination of point-to-point control wiring translates directly into installation savings. Properties deploying the Airzone/INTEREL wireless solution save hundreds of dollars per room in installation costs compared to traditional wired architectures.

Installation is further simplified by INTEREL’s app-based commissioning process: a field technician enters only the room number to pull all configuration settings from the INTEREL cloud, reducing commissioning time to approximately 20 minutes per room and eliminating the dependency on specialized on-site technical expertise.

Intelligent, Occupancy-Aware Energy Management

The INTEREL EOS2 combines onboard motion sensing, door contact monitoring, and environmental intelligence to automatically optimize HVAC operation based on real-time room occupancy, without requiring dedicated occupancy sensors.

Throughout the guest journey, EOS2 intelligently adjusts room conditions to maximize both comfort and efficiency:

  • Unrented rooms remain in an energy-saving setback mode between stays.
  • Property Management System (PMS) integrations enable automatic pre-conditioning prior to guest arrival.
  • During occupancy, EOS2 detects when guests leave the room and adjusts to an optimized comfort setpoint.
  • At checkout, the room automatically returns to deep setback, reducing unnecessary HVAC runtime.

By continuously adapting to occupancy patterns, EOS2 helps hotels reduce HVAC energy consumption by up to 39 percent, delivering overall energy savings of 15 to 20 percent and attractive payback periods while maintaining an exceptional guest experience.

“Hospitality operators shouldn’t have to choose between the most efficient HVAC technology and the most capable smart control. With INTEREL and Airzone, they can have both,” says Victoria Garcia Massimo, Director of Sales and Business Development – Americas, Airzone Control. “Together, we offer a solution that’s faster to install, less expensive to operate, and better for the guest.”
