WASHINGTON, D.C.—The American Hotel & Lodging Assn. (AH&LA) annual Summer Summit, held June 18 to 19 at The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa in Denver, will feature awards for eco-friendly practices. These Good Earthkeeping awards, to be presented at the Stars of the Industry Awards luncheon, are just some of the awards that will be presented. Other areas in which awards will be presented include: community service, guest relations, special events, diversity, and information technology. The Summit will also include a session featuring top-line forecasting and social data trends and a special meeting of members to vote on a proposed membership model.

Lindsay Culbreath, senior director of business development, STR, and Kristin Muhlner, CEO, newBrandAnalytics, will provide a mid-year overview to assist hoteliers in managing their hotels’ performance. Culbreath will share current hotel performance and forecasts, while Muhlner will discuss review sites that are gaining greater mindshare, key topics and themes gaining traction among guests, and ways data can inform and predict common measures of demand and yield.

Additionally, some of AH&LA’s more than 30 specialized committees, comprised of top-level hoteliers, management companies, and other representatives from the diverse lodging industry, will host meetings critical in strategically planning industry-wide programs and initiatives. Of particular note will be the AH&LA board meeting and the Annual Meeting of Members, which will include a presentation and vote on AH&LA’s proposed structure, bylaws, and funding model. President/CEO Katherine Lugar also will share an update on the changes underway and the association’s new strategic focus of advocacy and communications.
