TWENTYNINE PALMS, CALIF.—RESET Hotel has officially opened its doors introducing a full-service, 65 room boutique hotel, inviting guests to reconnect with nature through design-forward rooms, curated amenities, and direct access to Joshua Tree’s North Entrance.

RESET is the first full-service hotel to be built from the ground up in the high desert in over 15 years. Its scale and intentionality sets it apart from nearby short-term rentals and motels, offering a boutique hospitality experience just two hours from Los Angeles or San Diego, and about three hours from Phoenix and Las Vegas.

“RESET is about more than just a place to stay—it’s the feeling that we want our guests to experience during and after their stay,” says Adam Wininger, Founder of RESET. “By bringing this retreat to the Joshua Tree National Park area we’re inviting guests to slow down, disconnect from their phones and their day-to-day lives, and reconnect with nature.”

RESET Joshua Tree’s design is led by Wininger and co-founder and designer Ben Uyeda and Gry Space and draws directly from the surrounding landscape. Uyeda’s signature approach—minimalism, raw materials, and thoughtful framing, shapes every part of the property, from the guestroom layouts to the Solo Stove fire pits and stargazing platforms.

Nature Takes Center Stage

“The high desert is a place of beauty, challenge, and inspiration,” says Uyeda. “Our design approach was simple, create the infrastructure that lets nature take center stage. We used real materials that make sense in the environment, and designed moments that help guests experience stillness without distraction.”

“We love when we can join a project from early on enough to shape the identity across branding, space, and photography,” says GrySpace designers Jen Whitaker and Emi Kitawaki. “Having a hand in the full spectrum, that consistency allows us to create something refined and seamless.”

The RESET rooms see custom sofas, built-in wall desks, Fellow coffee stations and each room has a private patio features custom-built fire pits, daybeds, and a stargazing platform, all designed to frame the natural beauty of the desert.

Gry Space crafted a cohesive, immersive brand experience across every touchpoint. At the Welcome Center, they designed a calming, tactile space featuring a custom check-in counter, sculptural sofa and coffee table, a tranquil rock garden, bold logo placement at the entrance, and curated artwork. In the Cowork Oasis Lounge, Gry Space and Uyeda created a seamless environment where plaster flowed from walls into furniture, paired with custom sofas, a communal worktable, built-in bookshelves, and artwork curation.

Curated Artwork Featured

Gry Space’s creative direction extended to the full brand identity from the logo, website, merchandise, and signage, ensuring consistency across digital and physical realms. For the Split Rock Bistro project, the team led brand and bar design, collaborating with Uyeda on striking custom elements like firepit chairs and rock vases. Additional touches included scent installations for large rooms and curated artwork for smaller spaces. Outdoors, the pool and cabana area continues the grounded ambiance with two built-in cabanas with curated artwork, and outdoor shower, all maintaining a cohesive material palette that harmonizes with the high desert landscape.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of Joshua Tree National Park, RESET blurs the lines between a boutique hotel and an open-air experience. The hotel’s 160+ acres of untouched playa will eventually feature evolving art installations, experiences and moments of retreat.

Each room is curated for an immersive indoor-outdoor experience. Guests will find premium amenities such as Flamingo Estate bath products, Fellow pour-over coffee stations, Jolie filtered shower heads, private patios with Solo Stove fire pits, and, in select rooms, outdoor soaking tubs. There are no televisions or single-use plastics—only stillness, light, nature, and comfort.

Dining Centered Around the Split Rock Bistro

At RESET, dining is relaxed but considered, centered around The Split Rock Bistro, a poolside eatery with a menu that reflects the spirit of the desert: laid-back, seasonal, and full of soul with an homage to Japanese culture and minimalist design. The menu was created by Chef Alvaro Castellanos, a longtime Santa Barbara-based chef known for merging his Hispanic heritage with French technique. Small plates like Langostino Passion Fruit Aguachile, and Seared Scallop Bites offer vibrant, unexpected flavor combinations, while tinned fish with sourdough crackers and a dairy-free Boursin spread nod to casual grazing and elevated comfort food. Everything is made to pair effortlessly with the beverage program.

RESET Hotel was made possible through the support of HP Investors with the collective belief in the project’s long-term vision and future impact.

“As our futures look to be increasingly dominated by more screens, AI, robots, etc., we need to build many more places around the world for people to unplug,” Wininger says. “We see this concept expanding, with different collaborators, different geographies, but always the same ethos: unique design, natural surroundings, and creating some energetic spark that invites guests to leave differently than they showed up.”
