Our list of solar powered lodging establishments is by no means complete but it keeps getting longer. See the list by clicking here. The list consists primarily of U.S. hotels but there are many listed from outside the U.S. as well. As of today, a total of about 275 lodging establishments are listed. I just added Calabash Luxury Boutique Hotel in Grenada, Hotel Terrestre in Mexico, and Nayara Bocas del Toro in Panama. As far as I know, this is the most comprehensive list of solar-powered lodging establishments in the world.

A bit about the last three additions:

At Calabash Luxury Boutique Hotel, a solar farm was installed in 2018 that produces about one-third of the hotel’s electricity. See the hotel’s sustainability page to learn about the property’s many other initiatives.

Hotel Terrestre, part of Grupo Habita’s family of lifestyle hotels, operates completely off the grid using 100 percent solar power.

Nayara Bocas del Toro is also off the grid using 100 percent solar power. Interestingly, the property’s catchment basins store 55,000 gallons of rainwater to provide all the property’s purified freshwater needs. The resort recently added two treehouse suites. Each 50-foot-tall structure is constructed out of local bamboo and 19 other sources of wood.

Is your property powered by solar, wind, geothermal or hydroelectric power? Even if it is just partially powered by these renewable forms of energy, I want to hear about it and list it. I can be reached at greenlodgingnews@gmail.com. Our lists of properties powered by solar, wind, geothermal and hydroelectric can be found here.
