This coming weekend begins my busy travel season and one of the most important times of the year for trade show activity. I will be attending the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Show in Orlando (September 15 to 16). There is a long list of green suppliers among the more than 400 vendors who will be attending. Available will be items ranging from paper, silicon and stainless-steel straws to electric vehicles to Tree Free paper products. Be sure to watch for coverage of this show on GLN. Also coming up in Orlando is the third annual Sustainable Hospitality Summit on September 20 at the LEED Gold Grand Bohemian Hotel. The event is being organized by the U.S. Green Building Council Sustainable Hospitality Host Committee.

The 2019 Global Wellness Summit will take place October 15 to 17 at the Grand Hyatt Singapore. The event location was recently moved from Hong Kong. The global wellness economy is estimated to be $4.2 trillion.

Just prior to last year’s HX: The Hotel Experience and Boutique Design New York (BDNY) trade shows in New York City, Emerald Expositions Events, Inc. announced that it had acquired the HX and BDNY shows along with BDWest, Boutique Design Magazine and other assets of ST Media Group International and Hospitality Media Group. Emerald is the owner of HD Expo, the large hospitality design event held each May in Las Vegas.

AAHOA Partnership with HX

Interestingly, Emerald announced a partnership with AAHOA (Asian American Hotel Owners Assn.) in May with HX being rebranded as “HX: The Hotel Experience Powered by AAHOA.” AAHOA is putting together the conference part of HX this year. For the first time in a long time I will not be moderating any panel discussions, but I will be attending both HX and BDNY (both November 10 to 11). They are both excellent opportunities to learn about new products that can save you energy, water, reduce waste, improve indoor air quality and enhance hotel design.

One of the highlights of the fall trade show season is the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo. This year’s conference will take place November 19 to 22 in Atlanta at the LEED Gold Georgia World Congress Center. Greenbuild, the largest green building conference and expo in the world, is produced by Informa Connect and presented by USGBC. Greenbuild 2019 features four days of networking, educational sessions, green building tours, keynote events, and a robust expo floor. Former President Barack Obama will speak at the Wednesday keynote of the 2019 Greenbuild.

If you are aware of any other events relevant to Green Lodging News readers, whether coming up this fall or next year, be sure to contact me at editor@greenlodgingnews.com. I will gladly add the events to our Events calendar.

Looking for Guest Columnists

Every two weeks Green Lodging News posts a new guest column on its website. (Click here for examples.) The guest column also appears in the weekly e-newsletter. Green Lodging News is currently in need of industry experts to contribute occasional guest columns. Experts may include consultants, architects, designers, suppliers and those who own or operate green lodging establishments. Columns may be articles that take a stance on a particular subject or be strictly educational in nature. Columnists benefit by having their photo included along with a one paragraph description of their company. Interested in writing a column? Contact Glenn Hasek, publisher and editor, at (813) 510-3868, or by e-mail at editor@greenlodgingnews.com.

Get in the Green Suppliers Spotlight!

Green Lodging News, lodging’s leading environmental news source, announces the launch of Green Suppliers Spotlight, an e-blast to 22,015 subscribers that features the lodging industry’s leading green products and services. The e-blast features multiple vendors—unlike the current Green Supplier Spotlight that allows one supplier to “own” the Green Lodging News subscriber list for one e-blast. (Click here for a Green Suppliers Spotlight sample.)

Green Suppliers Spotlight is published weekly on Thursdays to general managers, owners, management companies, directors of sustainability, directors of engineering, facilities managers and many others who are either in purchasing positions or who influence purchasing decisions. Suppliers of green products and services throughout North America and beyond are invited to participate in the e-blast. (Minimum two suppliers per e-blast.) Green Suppliers Spotlight was created to give vendors an opportunity to reach a high number of industry purchasers at a very low cost—as low as $200 per e-mail. (Click here for rate sheet.)

Those advertising in Green Suppliers Spotlight can include up to 100 words, one image, contact information and multiple links to their website in their ad. At the end of each month, a report will be sent to each supplier with information on delivered e-mails, opens and click-throughs.
