NEW ORLEANS—LG Electronics USA marked Energy Star Day by providing energy efficient appliances to needy families in New Orleans as part of a special volunteerism project spearheaded by Sears Holdings and Rebuilding Together, the 40-year-old national nonprofit providing safe and healthy housing.
Volunteers, including LG and Sears employees, performed transformative home repairs, provided energy efficiency updates and installed the much-needed new Energy Star certified LG appliances in three homes in the Hollygrove-Dixon neighborhood. The Rebuilding Together project coincided with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Energy Star Partner Meeting in New Orleans.
LG was chosen as the exclusive provider of kitchen and laundry appliances for the homes, still in need of renovations 11 years after Hurricane Katrina. The efficiency upgrades include LG front-load washers designated by the EPA as “Energy Star Most Efficient 2016” and companion Energy Star certified LG dryers, as well as Energy Star certified refrigerators and dishwashers. Some homes also received new LG gas ranges and microwave ovens in their kitchen makeovers.
Together with corporate and community partners like Sears and LG, Rebuilding Together transforms the lives of low-income homeowners by improving the safety and health of their homes and revitalizing communities. Rebuilding Together’s local affiliates and nearly 100,000 volunteers complete about 10,000 rebuild projects nationwide each year. (Learn more and get involved at www.rebuildingtogether.org.).
