SANTA CLARA, CALIF.—Watt Stopper/Legrand welcomed close to 300 guests to the company’s headquarters here last month for its highly successful GreenFair. More than 30 exhibitors were on hand to discuss environmentally friendly products and services that ranged from building materials made from reclaimed materials to electric vehicles to recycling programs and commute alternatives to organic food, wine and pet supplies. Also in attendance were the mayors of Santa Clara and Los Gatos as well as San Jose’s energy officer.

Watt Stopper/Legrand president Jerry Mix greeted early attendees, explaining that the fair was the work of Watt Stopper employees who wanted to find green solutions for their own lives and share their findings with the community. Mix introduced Mayor Patricia Mahan of Santa Clara who discussed green solutions being developed by local businesses, including Watt Stopper. Mayor Barbara Spector of Los Gatos then spoke about the West Valley Green Leaf program that she recently helped organize to facilitate environmental action independent of government programs. San Jose Energy Officer Jessie Denver was the final speaker, and discussed San Jose’s Green Vision program including goals to reduce per capita energy use by 50 percent and attract new clean tech jobs.

Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to test drive electric bicycles and examine both electric and hybrid cars. Those planning home improvement projects learned about tankless hot water heaters; insulation; tiles made from recycled glass; sustainably grown and reclaimed wood products; energy saving lighting controls, appliances and air-conditioning; LED lighting; solar cells; and green builders. Visitors included friends and families of Watt Stopper/Legrand employees as well as employees of neighboring companies.
