Hilton Commits to Cutting Environmental Footprint in Half & Doubling Social Impact Investment
MCLEAN, VA.—Hilton today announced it will cut its environmental footprint in half and double its social impact investment by 2030. With this commitment, Hilton will become the first major hotel company to institute science-based targets to reduce carbon emissions and send zero soap to landfill.
The company will also double the amount it spends with local and minority-owned suppliers and double its investment in programs to help women and youth around the world.
These goals are part of Hilton’s Travel with Purpose corporate responsibility strategy to further the United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

California Water Savings Reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions
VISTA, CALIF.—A study released earlier this year by the University of California at Davis (UC Davis), finds that the reduction in water consumption in the state of California has also resulted in what was reported to be a “substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.”
California experienced a four-year drought, which ended in 2016. In 2015, the state implemented regulations, requiring a 25 percent across-the-board cut in water consumption.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—MGM Resorts International Senior Vice President & Chief Sustainability Officer Cindy Ortega testified before the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee at a hearing on the 2018 Western water supply outlook.

Today, World Water Day, the International Tourism Partnership (ITP) has released a 24-page report entitled, “Water Stewardship for Hotel Companies.” Be sure to read it. The report explains the connection between areas of tourism growth and water stress, and recommends six steps essential to any corporate water stewardship strategy.
