PORTLAND, ORE.—Viridian Reclaimed Wood announced the introduction of a new range of FSC-certified reclaimed old-growth Douglas-fir tabletops, according to Viridian co-owner Joe Mitchoff.

The tabletops, which can also be used for countertops, are milled from a deep inventory of Douglas-fir beams reclaimed from decommissioned buildings. Some beams are well in excess of 100 years old, in long lengths with extremely tight grain patterns.

“The beams we reclaim for our Doug-fir tabletops come from abandoned warehouses, decrepit docks and old gymnasiums,” Mitchoff said. “And they exhibit all the character and seasoned beauty you would expect from a centuries-old piece of lumber.”

Three Varieties of Tabletops

Viridian offers Douglas-fir tabletops in three varieties: Mixed Grain contains a variety of grain patterns from vertical to flat and is planed smooth; Rustic Original Beam Face highlights the character from its prior life as a structural beam with a combination of weathered style and functionality; and Vertical Grain features tight growth rings and an occasional nail hole to signify it’s reclaimed wood.

Tabletops are available in thicknesses of 1-1/2” and up; in widths of up to 48” and lengths ranging to 12’. Viridian keeps standard restaurant and desk sizes in stock.

Viridian tabletops can contribute points toward the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Credits: MRc3: (Materials Reuse), MRc4 (Recycled Content), MRc5 (Regional Materials) and MRc7 (Certified Wood).
