SAN DIEGO—Viejas Casino & Resort exceeded all expectations with a final count of 17,368 toys donated to the Salvation Army. Thousands of guests and team members were present for this year’s ceremony for one of the largest holiday drives in San Diego. Many of the toys were displayed on stage at the Park at Viejas, where the crowd cheered at the big reveal and the final count.

Viejas Tribal Government staff, team members, and guests collected toys throughout November and early December, along with holding a variety of fundraisers, to achieve the donation goal for the Salvation Army.

Viejas Tribal Chairman Robert Welch said, “Providing support for those in need in our community is at the heart of our value system. Every family deserves good cheer for the holidays.”

Check Also Presented to Salvation Army

At the height of the event, Chairman Welch presented Salvation Army Captain Terry Masango with a check in the amount of $35,000 on behalf of the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians, in support of the Salvation Army’s ongoing efforts in San Diego East County.

“There remains a pressing need for assistance in the community,” Viejas General Manager Chris Kelley observed. “The dedication and compassion of our team members, guests, and tribal community always come to the forefront during the holidays. We are very proud to be a part of this community, and we are committed to making it a better place for us all.”

In October of this year, Viejas celebrated the grand opening of their new luxury hotel tower, along with their expanded casino and the addition of 1,000 new slot machines. Viejas Casino & Resort has been consistently recognized with the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award for outstanding quality in guest services since the opening of their first hotel tower in 2013.
