DENVER—Under Canvas, a leader in upscale outdoor hospitality, announces the grand opening of its first camp in Washington State: Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge. The newest camp joins 11 other Under Canvas locations nationwide and is situated on a 120-acre property in Washington’s White Salmon River Valley. What makes this camp uniquely special is its proximity to such a wide range of activities—from prime outdoor recreation to award-winning wineries and active lifestyle pursuits. Located just 15 miles from White Salmon, Wash., and a scenic one-hour drive from Portland along the Columbia River, Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge offers guests a new way to experience the Pacific Northwest.
At Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge, guests wake and fall asleep amid pine- and oak-covered hillsides, surrounded by breathtaking views in every direction—including Oregon’s iconic Mount Hood. Designed to deliver elevated outdoor hospitality, the camp features upscale safari-inspired canvas tents set on private decks for optimal views of vistas and peaks. Each tent is thoughtfully appointed with king-size beds, luxe linens, bedside lanterns, USB charging packs, a gas fireplace, and ensuite bathrooms with hot pull-chain showers, sinks, and flushing toilets. Signature Under Canvas accommodations feature the proprietary Stargazer Tent, designed with a viewing window above the bed to provide optimal nighttime visibility; along with the Mount Hood Suite Tent—two tents connected by a private deck and outdoor lounge, perfect for families or groups seeking spacious, shared retreats.
The camp’s design reflects the rich textures and natural hues of the Pacific Coast region, thoughtfully crafted to encourage connection and community. The lobby tent, furnished with West Elm pieces and artwork by local artists, features inviting lounge areas and communal dining spaces designed to bring guests together. A curated selection of books and games from Northwest artisans further enhances these shared spaces, fostering moments of relaxation and interaction. Just steps away, an expansive yoga deck offers a serene setting for yoga, stargazing, or soaking in sweeping valley and mountain views, inviting guests to connect with nature and each other.
