NEW YORK—Ultrafabrics, a global leader in high-performance coated fabrics and alternative leathers, has unveiled its 2025 Sustainability Report. Highlighting the company’s commitment to addressing environmental and social impacts, the report outlines innovative practices and strategies aimed at embedding sustainability throughout Ultrafabrics’ operations.

On the heels of its 2025 Carbon Reduction Leader recognition, Ultrafabrics continues to raise the bar for sustainability in the performance materials space. The company is increasing its use of environmentally preferred inputs—including biobased, recycled, and certified materials—in its backings and resins to reduce the environmental footprint of its products. As the first and only polyurethane-branded partner to utilize TENCEL Modal in its backcloth, Ultrafabrics has long prioritized material innovation.

Many of Ultrafabrics’ collections, including Volar Bio, incorporate recycled polyester like REPREVE and Toray, made from post-consumer waste and plastic bottles. It also uses FSC and PEFC-certified viscose to ensure responsible forest sourcing, integrating sustainable fibers like ECOVERO and TENCEL Modal across its backcloths. Volar Bio showcases this with 66 percent environmentally preferred content, including biobased resin Susterra, derived from U.S.-grown corn.

Commitment to Continuously Improve

“Transparency remains central to Ultrafabrics’ sustainability mission. By openly sharing our progress, goals, and challenges, we empower our partners and the design community as a whole to make informed choices that contribute to a healthier planet,” says Sergio Prosperino, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Ultrafabrics. “From advancing biobased and recycled materials to reducing our environmental footprint through energy conservation, water recycling, and emissions reduction, our commitment to continuously improve and accountability is stronger than ever.”

Ultrafabrics’ long-term commitments and targets from the 2025 sustainability report include:

  • Achieving full PFAS-free status for all Ultrafabrics-branded products sold in the U.S., ahead of schedule. Globally, 90 percent of Ultrafabrics products are now PFAS-free, with a goal of reaching 100 percent by 2027.
  • Reducing water use by 20 percent from a 2020 baseline by 2025.
  • Ensuring all products sold to various markets (furniture, healthcare, recreational vehicle, marine, aviation, accessories) contain at least 50 percent environmentally preferred materials.
  • Keeping waste intensity at or below 3 percent. As of 2024, only 1.33 percent of yardage produced was sent to landfills or recycling.
  • For the Uf Select portfolio and relevant transportation-grade materials, achieving 50 percent environmentally preferred materials by 2030.

Ultrafabrics prioritizes safe, responsible manufacturing to minimize environmental and health risks. Its polyurethane-coated fabrics are free from PVC, plasticizer phthalates, and formaldehyde, which are often found in other alternatives, such as vinyl, and pose environmental risks and health hazards.

Ultrafabrics continues to push the boundaries of performance materials, emphasizing circular design, lower-impact chemistry, and lasting performance. Its approach to innovation ensures sustainability and design excellence go hand in hand, creating options that are not only high-performing but also safe for both people and the planet.
