NILES, ILL.—The Mitchell Group, a major converter of coated fabrics to upholstery markets around the world, has officially launched NetZERO BIO, a next-generation coated fabric platform that redefines what high-performance upholstery can be, combining advanced clean chemistry, bio-attributed materials, and elevated design without compromise. Engineered for commercial interiors, NetZERO BIO delivers durability, cleanability, and a premium hand while telling a remarkable environmental story.

NetZERO BIO is made using a proprietary, water-based, solvent-free manufacturing process that replaces fossil-based inputs with renewable resources at the start of production. The material features 94 percent bio-attributed polyurethane, enhanced with a 6 percent silicone top finish for long-term durability and cleanability, and is backed with 100 percent GRS transaction-certified recycled polyester. “Bio-attributed” means that right at the start of production, fossil feedstocks are replaced with renewable sources like corn or sugarcane. Susterra propanediol (PDO) is a 100 percent bio-based ingredient made from U.S.-grown corn. Instead of using petroleum, it’s created through a natural fermentation process, using dextrose (a type of sugar) from industrial dent corn grown in the Midwest. It’s a pure, nontoxic alternative used in coatings, adhesives, and polymers. By replacing fossil-based materials, Susterra helps reduce harmful emissions and supports healthier indoor spaces and cleaner manufacturing.

The result of this advanced production process is a supple, soft-touch surface with exceptional technical performance, including 500,000 double rubs, 24-week hydrolysis resistance, and permanent cleanability that does not diminish over time. NetZERO BIO is built with Mitchell’s new Hydro‑Sil silicone-based performance finish engineered for superior stain resistance, ink repellency, and long-term durability in commercial environments.

PVC-free, PFAS-free, Solvent-free

Designed to support healthier indoor environments, NetZERO BIO is PVC-free, PFAS-free, solvent-free, Red List compliant, and meets key regulatory standards, including CAL VOC 01350, RoHS, and REACH. With 14 percent USDA-certified bio-based content and measurable biodegradation—15.7 percent within 90 days without added enzymes, the platform offers specifiers a significant step toward carbon-conscious interiors aligned with LEED, WELL, and Living Building Challenge goals.

“NetZERO BIO allowed us to tell the story of an environmentally significant performance textile,” said Bill Fisch, President of The Mitchell Group. “In this next chapter, NetZERO BIO represents a fundamental shift in how coated fabrics are made. By engineering sustainability directly into the chemistry—rather than layering it on after the fact—we’re delivering a material that performs beautifully, feels exceptional, and supports healthier spaces for people and the planet.”

NetZERO BIO is currently available in the five original NetZERO patterns: Arbor, Birkin, Burlap, Evergreen, and Lin. Additionally, Wooly, Ridgefield, and Plume are the new selections that have been developed for the NetZERO BIO launch.

With NetZERO BIO, The Mitchell Group continues its commitment to innovation that balances performance, design integrity, and environmental responsibility, proving that clean chemistry and elevated aesthetics can coexist without compromise.
