Communities Expanding Their Green Building Programs
WASHINGTON, D.C.—In the wake of an extended global economic slump, local communities are pushing ahead and expanding their green building programs. More than one in five U.S. cities with populations greater than 50,000 surveyed by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) report having a policy to promote green buildings, accounting for more than 53 million people. Sustainability, Local Sourcing Top List of Hottest Menu Trends
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The National Restaurant Association’s annual survey of more than 1,800 professional chefs—members of the American Culinary Federation (ACF)—reveals that local sourcing of ingredients, sustainability and nutrition will be the hottest trends on restaurant menus in 2010. Locally grown produce, locally sourced meats and seafood, sustainability, mini-desserts and locally produced wine and beer top the list of nearly 215 culinary items in the “What’s Hot in 2010” survey. Rounding out the top 10 trends are nutritious kids’ meals, half-portions, farm-branded ingredients, gluten-free/food-allergy conscious meals and sustainable seafood.

NSF Certifies First Global Company to Sustainable Carpet Standard
ANN ARBOR, MICH.—NSF International, the developer of the only American National Standard for sustainable carpet, announced that InterfaceFLOR, a leading manufacturer of modular carpet, has received certification to NSF/ANSI 140: Sustainable Carpet for both their GlasBac and GlasBac RE products.
