MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF.—Shashi Hotel, a premier urban resort nestled in the heart of Silicon Valley in Mountain View, California by Shashi Group, announced that it has been awarded LEED Gold certification by USGBC. LEED is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol of excellence. Through design, construction and operational practices that improve environmental and human health, LEED-certified buildings are helping to make the world more sustainable.

“At Shashi Hotel, our goal has always been to provide guests with the best customer experience possible, while also solidifying ourselves as the most disruptive and empowering technologically driven lodging company in the world, with an emphasis on sustainability and technology,” said Dipesh Gupta, Founder and CEO of Shashi Group. “We have made a conscious effort to implement several environmentally friendly initiatives throughout the property including the use of solar panels, use of recycled water, high efficiency HVAC room units, and more, so we are thrilled to be recognized as a LEED Gold certified property. We hope guests will enjoy their stay while minimizing their carbon footprint.”

Shashi Hotel joins a select group of only 34 lodging projects across California that have received the prestigious LEED Gold Certification, including hotels, military barracks, and dormitories and more. Shashi Hotel achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions in areas including sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. Green buildings allow companies to operate more sustainably and give the people inside them a healthier, more comfortable space to work. Other considerations and implementations at Shashi Hotel include:

  • Solar panels contributing to 30 percent of total power;
  • High efficiency HVAC room units that maximize the use of fresh air;
  • Exclusive use of LED lighting;
  • Sophisticated lighting controls;
  • High level fresh air ventilation ratios;
  • Recycled water for landscape;
  • Low flow plumbing fixtures throughout; and
  • Recycling and waste separation.

“LEED is a transformative tool that ensures a building is designed and operated to achieve high performance, improve human health and protect the environment,” said Peter Templeton, President and CEO, USGBC. “By prioritizing sustainability, Shashi Hotel is leading the way in their industry and helping USGBC continue towards our goal of green buildings for everyone within this generation.”

Forward Thinking Sustainability Initiatives

Opened in 2021, Shashi Hotel was built for the corporate traveler in mind; ensuring exceptional, highly personalized customer experiences, through tech savvy guestrooms, forward thinking sustainability initiatives, an unbeatable loyalty program, purposeful design and elevated amenities, including refined culinary and cocktail options. With decades of experience in technology, engineering, and business, Dipesh Gupta entered the hospitality industry with a unique perspective on where the industry can and should progress, from technological advances to sustainability initiatives.

LEED certification is proof that Shashi Hotel has gone above and beyond to ensure the space is constructed and operated to the highest level of sustainability. LEED projects earn points by adhering to prerequisites and credits across nine measurements for building excellence from integrative design to human health to material use. The LEED rating systems work for all buildings at all phases of development and are meant to challenge project teams and inspire outside-the-box solutions. As of February 2023, more than 185,000 projects worldwide, both commercial and institutional, are currently participating in LEED, comprising more than 28 billion square feet of construction space in all 50 states and more than 185 countries and territories.
