SEATTLE—The DoubleTree by Hilton Seattle Airport and the Hilton Seattle Airport & Conference Center have earned Green Seal Silver certification. The hotels are the seventh and eighth properties in Washington State to earn a Green Seal certification.
“We are proud to announce that the DoubleTree and Hilton Seattle Airport hotels have achieved Green Seal Silver certifications,” said Dr. Arthur Weissman, president and CEO of Green Seal. “This achievement illustrates these hotels’ commitment to their guests, staff, and community through environmental leadership.”
Green Seal is one of the premier independent eco-labels in the United States and the Green Seal Standard for Hotels and Lodging Properties is one of the most robust environmental standards in the hospitality industry.
Long Road to Certification
“Earning the Green Seal certification has been a large undertaking for each hotel,” said Frank Welton, general manager of the DoubleTree and Hilton Seattle Airport hotels. “I can’t express how proud I am of our staff. They worked with Green Seal for over two years to make sure we are environmentally responsible in all aspects of our properties.”
In order to receive certification, a hotel must meet and adhere to stringent guidelines set out by the standard. These include requirements in waste management, energy efficiency, water conservation, wastewater management and green procurement. A certified property’s records, processes and procedures are evaluated and an on-site audit of the property is conducted. Certified hotels also submit to annual monitoring to assure continued compliance.
In addition to earning the Green Seal certification, the DoubleTree and Hilton Seattle Airport hotels were the recipients of the 2012 Washington Lodging Association Good Earthkeeping Award for their efforts in the community and both hotels are recognized by King County as a best workplace for recycling and waste reduction.
