VERNON HILLS, ILL.—Scotsman Ice Systems announced it was named in McDonald’s Corporation’s 2012 Best of Sustainable Supply Chain report for its Prodigy line of ice machines. The line reduces up to 50 percent of water consumption, which translates into saving more than 150,000 gallons of water over the typical lifetime of the machine.

McDonald’s Best of Sustainable Supply Chain report recognizes companies that implement innovative and effective ways to address challenges to help improve food sources, the environment, communities and employee wellness across the world.

“Scotsman was the only ice machine manufacturer awarded this distinction in 2012 by McDonald’s,” said Rich Gleitsmann, president of Scotsman Ice Systems. “This recognition further emphasizes our commitment to creating machines that not only reduce water consumption but also promote energy savings.”

Scotsman Ice Systems was one of 51 recipients of the global honor out of 400 entries. A panel of McDonald’s executives and external experts including BSR, Conservation International, Food Animal Initiative (FAI) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) selected the final 2012 Best of Sustainable Supply Chain winners. These projects were chosen based on either measurable results or innovation.

“The submissions in this year’s report demonstrate that McDonald’s supply chain is world class in its ability to provide safe, sustainable and assured supply of food,” said Jose Armario, executive vice president, McDonald’s Global Supply Chain, Development and Franchising. “We sincerely appreciate all of our suppliers’ efforts.”
