RIU Hotels raised social investment to 5.13M euros in 2025, achieved 100 percent Ecostars certification across its 101-hotel portfolio, and sourced 90 percent of electricity from renewables.
As part of its Proudly Committed sustainability strategy, the hotel chain spearheaded 119 strategic initiatives focused on child protection, education, community health, and environmental conservation across the destinations where it operates.

Fifty-six percent of the total social investment was primarily focused on child health and education, directly benefiting 69,244 children and adolescents, as well as 57,871 indirect beneficiaries.
The RIU Method
All of the company’s social initiatives are developed under the RIU Method, a social impact methodology designed in partnership with the ESCP business school. The global implementation of this model now reaches 78 percent of the destinations and 70 percent of the countries where the chain operates.
Regarding environmental sustainability, RIU increased its environmental initiatives by 40 percent compared to the previous year. A total of 23 percent of global actions in 2025 focused on biodiversity, encompassing 28 active projects dedicated to the protection of ecosystems and endangered species.
Key milestones in environmental conservation include:
- Marine wildlife protection: The release of 106,805 sea turtle hatchlings in critical nesting areas such as Cape Verde and Costa Rica.
- Coral ecosystem regeneration: The transplantation and implementation of 12,642 coral colonies as part of marine restoration projects located in the Maldives, Mauritius, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Spain.
RIU Hotels & Resorts has achieved 100 percent Ecostars sustainability certification across its entire operational hotel portfolio, one year ahead of the scheduled deadline. The only exceptions are two recently opened establishments that have yet to complete the 12-month analytical period required for the assessment.
Furthermore, 90 percent of the electricity consumed throughout all its hotels is now sourced from renewable energy, consolidating the company’s energy transition.
Response to Hurricane Melissa
The 2025 social investment budget included provisions for rapid response to climate-related contingencies. Following the passage of Hurricane Melissa through Jamaica, a destination where RIU operates seven hotels, the company allocated nearly one million euros in extraordinary aid and reconstruction funds to support the affected communities.
