A few housekeeping items this week.

I am sure they are just partial lists, but the number of properties now listed in the Renewable Energy All Stars section of Green Lodging News now stands at approximately 360. These include properties utilizing either hydro, geothermal, wind or solar technologies. By far solar has the longest list with about 300 properties, 208 of which are in the United States. If you currently have a property with electricity supplied by any of the above renewable technologies and it is not on my list, let me know and I will gladly add it. I can be reached at greenlodgingnews@gmail.com.

Just in the last couple of days solar came up in a conversation I had with Rishi Shah, Senior Director, Sustainability for Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, and in a press release I received about Hotel Marcel (New Haven, Conn.) In Rishi’s case he highlighted a Wyndham franchisee at Starry Night Lodging + RV who is sold on solar and in the Hotel Marcel’s case it was regarding the solar-powered hotel becoming the first Passive House-certified hotel in the country. Watch for a profile of Rishi soon on Green Lodging News, as well as a chat with the Hotel Marcel New Haven’s architect and developer Bruce Redman Becker.

It is great to see so many developers in our industry embracing renewable energy and in Becker’s case, adopting a certification program brand new to our industry.

Guest Columnists

Since starting Green Lodging News more than 17 years ago I have posted more than 400 guest columns. For suppliers it is a great way to position themselves as an expert in their niche while reaching out to thousands of industry stakeholders. Consultants, public relations representatives, hoteliers, and innkeepers are also free to contribute. I am currently in search of new guest columns. If you believe you are a budding Hemingway, or even a step or two above Dr. Seuss, reach out to me with your column ideas. Again, I can be reached at greenlodgingnews@gmail.com.

Me On a Podcast

A big thank you to Kathy Sue McGuire for chatting with me for The Sustainable Hospitality Podcast. You can access it by clicking here. In Kathy’s words, “Whether you’re a hotelier, an avid traveler, or simply someone keen on sustainable development, this episode offers a comprehensive look into why and how the hospitality industry should, and can, lead the way in sustainable practices.”

Support Our Sponsors

Green Lodging News is fueled by those suppliers in our industry who advertise in the publication. Those suppliers come back to Green Lodging News time and time again when you reach out to them, say you saw them in Green Lodging News, and purchase products and services from them. Please do support our sponsors. In a roundabout way it keeps Green Lodging News sustainable. Thank you.

Who is Your Sustainability Champion?

Get in the Green Suppliers Spotlight!

Green Lodging News, lodging’s leading environmental news source, publishes Green Suppliers Spotlight, an e-blast to 19,701 subscribers that features the lodging industry’s leading green products and services. The e-blast features multiple vendors—unlike the current Green Supplier Spotlight that allows one supplier to “own” the Green Lodging News subscriber list for one e-blast. (Click here for a Green Suppliers Spotlight sample.)

Green Suppliers Spotlight is published weekly on Thursdays to general managers, owners, management companies, directors of sustainability, directors of engineering, facilities managers and many others who are either in purchasing positions or who influence purchasing decisions. Suppliers of green products and services throughout North America and beyond are invited to participate in the e-blast. (Minimum two suppliers per e-blast.) Green Suppliers Spotlight was created to give vendors an opportunity to reach a high number of industry purchasers at a very low cost—as low as $135 per e-mail. (Click here for rate sheet.)

Those advertising in Green Suppliers Spotlight can include up to 100 words, one image, contact information and multiple links to their website in their ad. At the end of each week, a report will be sent to each supplier with information on delivered e-mails, opens and click-throughs.
