Renaissance Nashville Hotel Wins Back to Back Awards for Sustainability Efforts

NASHVILLE, TENN.—The Renaissance Nashville Hotel is moving forward into 2020 with a continued focus on sustainability after being recognized for its efforts, recently winning the Greater Nashville Hospitality Association 2019 Stars of the Industry Award—Good Earth Keeping Award Lodging Property as well as the Tennessee Hospitality & Tourism Association 2019 Stars of the Industry Award—Good Earth Keeping Award Lodging Property.

The Good Earth Keeping Award recognizes properties that have developed a culture toward integrating environmental management practices with everyday operations, while maintaining quality service and meeting guest expectations.

“The Renaissance is extremely honored to be recognized for its sustainability efforts by such an esteemed organization,” said Kevin Pickard, Director of Hotel Operations. “Our staff is committed to excellence not just in accommodating the needs of all guests, but also the needs for our planet.”

The Renaissance has several active programs that contribute to their sustainability efforts including:

  • Composting, through Nashville Compost Co., #1 in total diversion for all Nashville hotels, total diversion YTD : 259,766 pounds.
  • Fryer oil recycling—through Restaurant Technologies.
  • Aqua recycling—through Aqua Recycle. Recycled 1,805,165 gallons of water (January to June 2019). Compost all lint that comes through this as well.
  • Cardboard Recycling—through Rock TN Recycling. Thirty-eight tons to date.
  • Adopt a Highway participation.
  • Bee program.
  • 1966 Shasta Trailer that is used for a popup bar, registration, coffee shop or off property events. 1956 Cadillac Coupe de Ville that has been upcycled into a portable bar. Freight shipping container that has been upcycled into a popup bar. 1962 Zenith high fidelity stereo that has been refurbished for Little Fib Restaurant.
  • Started guestroom recycling and donate a tree program this year.
  • Removed all plastic straws from property.

The Renaissance Nashville Hotel completed an extensive $50 million renovation in 2019, upgrading its rooms, restaurants and existing meeting space and most recently expanding its services to offer 103,000 square feet of meeting space, more than any other hotel in downtown Nashville.
