BENICIA, CALIF.—Pacific Ozone Technology, a supplier of OEM ozone equipment, has launched Element Ozone, a subsidiary company supplying ozone technology for light commercial applications. Element Ozone’s countertop ozone generator is designed for kitchens in hotel restaurants and can be used to sanitize and disinfect hands, foods and food prep surfaces.
“Because of the increased liability food service companies have, the industry is ready to embrace ozone as an antimicrobial agent, says Jeremy Ke, operations manager for Element Ozone. Ozone provides organizations with an effective barrier against contamination. In addition, it is natural, eco-friendly and produces a natural by-product: oxygen.”
Ozone’s widespread use by suppliers of the food service industry has been growing because of its effectiveness at sanitizing and disinfecting water, produce, meats and equipment. Many companies are replacing chemical treatments with ozone systems.
Ozone is becoming the preferred method for disinfecting water supplies primarily because of its effectiveness and safety. Ozone is recommended and has full approval of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for sanitizing food supplies of all types. Ozone is even being shown to eliminate pesticides, herbicides and other persistent chemical residues from produce surfaces, resulting in healthier and safer foods.
Ozone is more effective at eliminating bacteria and viruses than harmful chemical treatments and is the most powerful food-grade antimicrobial agent available, working 3,000 times faster than chlorine.
