With 2025 nearing an end, it is time to reveal the 10 most viewed articles on the Green Lodging News website for the year. This list includes only articles posted in 2025. With such a robust archive of articles (15,000+), Green Lodging News articles from previous years often make the actual top 10.

1. Prospect, a New Mountain Lake Resort Opens in The Berkshires. A new destination in Western Massachusetts has opened: Prospect is a year-round retreat situated on the shores of Prospect Lake, nestled on 30 acres in the heart of the Berkshire Mountains. Originally a picnic ground enjoyed by families in the late 1800s, the setting expanded to a camping ground in the mid-20th-century and is now reimagined as a peaceful landscape hotel.

2. Jury Awards $2 Million in Landmark Bed Bug Case Against California Hotel. In a historic victory for consumer safety, a Ventura County judge has denied the defendants’ Motion for New Trial, officially upholding a $2 million jury verdict obtained by Brian Virag, trial attorney and founder of MYBEDBUGLAWYER, INC. The case—Alvaro Gutierrez and Ramiro Sanchez v. Dario Pini and DLP Management Company—arose from a severe bed bug infestation at the Shores Inn in Ventura, Calif.

3. Sustainability in Action: How Three Hotel Brands Are Redefining ESG. In recent years, ESG—Environmental, Social, and Governance—has gone from buzzword to boardroom priority. But how does ESG look in action for global hotel brands? As sustainability moves from peripheral strategy to operational imperative, Hilton, Marriott, and Wyndham are leading the charge in distinct yet converging ways. This article dives into the ESG progress of these three international hotel chains between 2021 and 2023, highlighting trends, innovations, and opportunities hospitality executives should pay attention to.

4. Optimizing Pool Operations with Ecolab AquaIQ Program. What happens when a pool has to close due to a chemical imbalance or unplanned maintenance issues? Even a short closure can lead to disappointed guests, bad reviews, and additional costs. Ecolab understands that pools are a vital part of operations and help enhance the guest experience. The benefits of a pool can make a big impact, as they can serve as a desirable amenity that attracts more guests, increases occupancy rates, and enhances the overall appeal of the property.

5. Earth Day Highlights from Properties & Companies Around the Planet. With Earth Day approaching, I heard from many PR agencies pitching locations/companies around the world for Green Lodging News stories. Here is a selection that were cited as having green initiatives worth writing about: Ananda in the Himalayas is celebrating its 25th anniversary by reinforcing its commitment to sustainable luxury through initiatives that support both local communities and the surrounding natural ecosystem.

6. Bill Moving Through Maine Legislature Would Phase Out Most Single-Use Plastic Amenity Bottles. The Morning Sentinel is reporting that a bill advancing in the Maine Legislature—LD 1928—would prohibit most hotels, short-term rentals and other guest accommodations from using single-use plastic amenity bottles (with less than a 6‑ounce capacity) for shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion. Locations with 12 or fewer units would be exempt. The bill does not restrict the use of plastic refillable containers for personal health or beauty products. It also does not restrict the use of single-use personal health or beauty product containers, bottles, wrappers or packaging that are not made with plastic.

7. How AI is Transforming Hotel Operations for Energy & Resource Management. In an industry where tight margins and high guest expectations intersect with the growing demand for sustainability, innovation is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity. Hotel operators today face rising energy costs, resource constraints, and labor challenges, all while striving to deliver exceptional guest experiences. At the heart of addressing these challenges is a technology that’s often misunderstood or underutilized: Artificial Intelligence (AI).

8. The Mitchell Group’s NetZERO Added to Materials ConneXion Library. The Mitchell Group’s groundbreaking NetZERO collection is now featured in the cutting-edge Materials ConneXion library, a globally recognized resource for sustainable and innovative materials used by leading architects, designers, and manufacturers across industries.

9. Sustainability Trends in Hospitality: Key Benefits & Strategies to Keep in Mind. This article explores the importance of sustainability in the hospitality industry, showcases real-life examples of sustainable practices in action, and highlights key strategies hotels and businesses can adopt to align with sustainability trends in hospitality. Climate change is driving the world’s agenda. Business leaders everywhere are wrestling with how to respond to rising public and political pressure and align their systems and operations with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, established to keep global warming below 2°C and ideally 1.5°C. None more so than for hotels, that means reducing their emissions by 90 percent by 2050.

10. Bend Preserves the Past with Restored Downtown Boutique Hotel, The Westman. A new chapter begins for one of Bend’s most storied buildings as the restored Westman boutique hotel opens reservations ahead of its highly anticipated fall debut. Located in the heart of downtown Bend, The Westman breathes new life into the city’s former and once vibrant United States Post Office with 23 uniquely designed guestrooms and elevated, community-driven common space areas.
