Green Seal Releases New Standard for Laundry Products

Starwood Completes Sale of Aloft and Element Lexington

STAMFORD, CONN.—Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. announced that it has completed the sale of Aloft and Element Lexington to Rockwood Capital for $36 million. As part of the agreement, the dual-hotel development in Lexington, Mass., will be managed under long-term license agreements by Paramount Hotel Group and continue to fly the Aloft and Element flags. Sustainable Restaurateur McKerrow Signs Straw-free Pledge

RALEIGH, N.C.—Concord Hospitality Enterprises, one of the top-ranked hotel developer/owner/operators in North America, announced that it has stepped up its growth strategy for 2013 to include opportunistic acquisitions/divestments and third-party management in addition to continuing its aggressive development program. Marriott Takes Stand on Two Animal Confinement Systems

BETHESDA, MD.—Marriott International is expanding its work to create a more sustainable planet by eliminating two controversial animal confinement systems from its food supply chain. According to its new policies, the Bethesda, Md.-based company will require all of its pork suppliers to discontinue the use of gestation crates for Marriott’s supply chain by 2018; and ensure that by 2015, all eggs and egg products used by Marriott come from cage-free hens. Hilton Once Again Among Top Green Power Users

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its lists of the top organizations within the Green Power Partnership using the most renewable electricity. In the Top 50 there is just one lodging company represented—Hilton Worldwide at No. 14. Ninety-four percent of the electricity purchased annually by Hilton is green power (315,000,000 kWh).
